Granny Square Sweater

Baby it’s cold outside! The midwest winter has returned to Indiana and it’s the perfect time to take on a crochet project. I loved making this boxy sweater as this granny square pattern uses up the many scrap balls of yarn I have hanging around in my yarn baskets. While I didn’t rely on a specific pattern for this sweater, I took some advice from YouTube crafters and used my daughter’s general body measurements to gauge the size for this garment. She is an extra small size but wanted a chunky, loose-fitting cropped style that she could wear over a long-sleeved t-shirt or turtle neck. Here are the two resources I used for general guidance.

I am new to crochet so I enjoyed the ease of making simple, colorful squares and joining them together to make this youthful sweater…

    1. Thanks for your kind comment. I wish I had a pattern to share but I am new to crochet so I used the links listed in my post to follow along on their YouTube channels. Because I didn’t want and open cardigan, I simply sewed four squares together across the front and back. To make the arms and bottom long enough, I simply double-crocheted the circumference to the desired length. Hope this helps!

    1. Hello Kris,
My squares are 5×5”. I am a beginner crocheter and I just sewed squares together until the width of the sweater seemed to fit across my daughter’s chest for the sweater front and duplicated the same for the back. This made a size 4-6. I added rows of length with double crochet and did the same for the sleeves . I really just used trial and error and watched lots of YouTube videos. I would think the same will work for you with your larger squares as long as you keep checking the size to suit your needs. Happy Crocheting!😊
