Happy Halloween!
Here’s a moist and flavorful recipe that is sure to put a smile on your face for the holiday! One of the main ingredients is mayonnaise. I have made this cake for years and it’s one of my most requested recipes. You can find the full recipe here. For this cake I used cream cheese frosting and holiday sprinkles but you can use anything that you like. Enjoy!
How interesting! I have to admit I had to do a “double take” when I read mayonnaise!! Looks delish

I’ve never heard of a mayonnaise cake, and I’m surprised by how much mayonnaise is in there! Never thought of using it in a cake, but this looks delicious! Thanks for sharing 😀

When you think about it, mayonnaise has a base of eggs and oil…that’s nothing new when thinking of ingredients for a cake recipe. The mayo really moistens up the cake and has made it a favorite in my house. Thanks for your comment, Ada… Enjoy your day!

It looks delish. I remember one of my aunt’s used to make a mayo chocolate cake that was so moist and tasty.

Yes, mayo does add flavor, texture, and moisture to the cake. Kind of like adding pudding mix to the cake. Thanks for your valued comment. Have a good day!

Wow mayo! It totally makes sense, but i’m curious – do you taste the mayo? 😉

No,you won’t be able to taste the mayo. Frankly, I can’t stand the taste of mayo so was a bit apprehensive when I first tasted this cake years ago. All of the other ingredients blend to make a delicious tasting chocolate cake.
Have a good day, Charissa!

Haha… I thought of that as well! You can make this cake in a 13×9″pan or in two round layer cake pans. Either way, its yummy!😊 Have a good day, Nena!

What an amazing recipe – I’ve never heard of mayo being included in a cake but it looks amazing and I guess is a little similar to using sour cream? I may just have to give this a try. Plus your cake just looks stunning!

You are right, it’s kind of like adding sour cream or yogurt to the mix to add density and moisture. This is an old recipe so I would guess it was put together when mayo was more economical or they didn’t have sour cream on hand. Some ofthe best recipes come from substitutions or mistakes!
